Johannes Gartner, our new Postdoc since March 2021.
Hello Johannes Gartner!
What brought you to Lund University and Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship?
I am a great fan of the Nordic culture, and after the many positive experiences I had in Finland, I wanted to get to know other Nordic countries better. Lund University is an inspiring institution that is not only located in a beautiful area but also impresses with a outstanding reputation, long tradition and an excellent research environment. So, I was quite excited when I discovered the vacancy in my research field at the Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship. I am thrilled to get the chance to become part of this exciting community.
Tell us about your new job/position! What are you expectations?
My future tasks in entrepreneurial finance research will enable me to combine my two main fields of interest, entrepreneurship and technology. I am planing to put the research focus on innovative financing instruments that result from emerging technologies. I hope that this will build on the excellent research that has already been carried out at the centre and that I can make valuable contributions.
What is your background?
I was born in Vienna, and my education has always fluctuated between technology and business research. After attending a technical college, I completed my first Master's degree in business administration at WU Vienna. A year followed in which I co-founded a start-up and began my doctorate in economics at Johannes Kepler University. In addition, I obtained different degrees, first in computer science and later in IT security management in the Upper Austria area and at a German university. After completing my doctorate, I got a post-doctorate position at the Institute for Entrepreneurship at Aalto University in Finland, which I have held and enjoyed until now.
Tell us something surprising about yourself!
There was a time in my youth when I tried my hand at being a comedian. Together with a friend, we wrote a program and even got some gigs with it. However, we quickly discovered that we were both too introverted and shy at this time to be an entertainer. :-)
